Biblical Culture Immersion with Elizabeth Raine & John Squires.

Saturday 24th August, 10am – 3pm

Want to understand your bible better? Then travel back in time to first century Palestine in a hands-on experience of some tastes, sights and sounds of a Christian Jewish household. Join in the traditions of hospitality, customs of the time, and household rituals and tasks. Explore the hidden world of the biblical woman – she had significant authority and power, especially over domestic ritual and the education of children. Get familiar with the language of the Old Testament, and learn the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic. Explore the ancient art of storytelling, participate in ancient middle eastern music, and discover how food and biblical history are intertwined, and how meals were intricately linked with the practice of religion, particularly at the Feast of Passover – a time of celebrating freedom. This is a family event –children are welcome and will learn ancient games and simple cooking. Elizabeth and John, former teachers at United Theological College, are expert Biblical scholars and infectious, passionate, experienced communicators.
