Worship in the holiday season
From Rev Dr John Squires
Presbytery Minister - Wellbeing
The ministers of the churches in the Sapphire Coast region (including our own Jean Shannon) have produced a wonderful video with a message of Hope—suitable for the coming season, and indeed for the whole year we have experienced. It would make a fine video to show over the holiday period, when many Congregations experience difficulty in “finding a preacher”. It contains readings from Scripture, videos of wonderful scenery, words from each of the local ministers, and concludes with an excerpt from The Blessing Australia. Of course, another way to provide a meaningful worship experience during the holiday season could be to make use of resources prepared and made available online by various groups, such as
The Gospel for this Sunday reminds us that every Christian person is endowed with gifts for ministry—indeed, our own Basis of Union affirms that “the one Spirit has endowed the members of Christ's Church with a diversity of gifts, and that there is no gift without its corresponding service: all ministries have a part in the ministry of Christ” (para. 13). Every Congregation has a person, or most probably a number of people, who are capable of leading a worship service using such resources, whether they are trained or “officially accredited” by the church. The holiday season offers us another way to put this commitment into practice.
